Theosophical Planes
Since my last post on vehicles of consciousness, I came across some new information on the seven planes described by theosophists. There was no chart that listed all seven in one place in Man and His Bodies, so I had to do some guesswork to construct the one that I offered in the previous post.
That list turned out to be incorrect on several counts. For example, I had listed a separate causal plane, above the mental plane, as the realm of the causal body. It appears that the causal plane concept comes from a later reinterpretation (one of many) of the seven planes of consciousness, where it's located between the astral and mental planes and is supposed to be the source of information about our past lives.
I've gone ahead and made the necessary corrections in the previous post. If you're interested, here's the website where I found the complete list. Scroll down and you'll also find material on the seven subplanes of the astral and mental planes, each of which becomes an afterdeath destination for souls at particular levels of spiritual development.

Hi Kurt,
Great blog, nice to see the material coming together, both for pure understanding and for your next book.
I roughly agree with all the planes and selves of the Theosophists, but I wonder about what they left out. For example, where is the continuum of consciousness that is crystals to plants to animals to people to angelic beings to... suns and planets? Everything has consciousness and the physical world is one mapping of consciousness, so how does it all fit. Are these lower planes, inner planes, what? There are entire ecosystems of consciousness that might be described in ecosystem terms. Where are fairies and nature energies, are they lower, higher, or just different? So much to explain.
Thanks for being you!
Carl
Hi Kurt,
To continue, I'm thinking of more nonphysical otherworld maps to correlate. It would be awesome if, with your non-biased functionalist insights, you could reconcile these with Theosophist and Buddhist planes, as well as your own Otherwhere spirit-processing zones. Or at least that's my vote for a major field in need of clarifications.
Shamanism: journeying upward to god realms, laterally to the human earth realms, or downward into the earth to animal spirit realms.
western religions: hades/hell/underworld, a possible purgatory midworld, and heaven/olympus upperworld. Swedenborg had the natural, spiritual, celestial realms.
psychology and human potential:
unconscious (collective or personal), subconscious, conscious, higher conscious
etc...
Carl
Just an observation...
The link shown below your books that leads to your blog: Music and the Soul doesn't work. However, the link to that same blog in your profile does.
I suspect the problem may be that the link below your books doesn't contain the word "blogspot".
Working Link: http://musicandthesoul.blogspot.com/
Broken Link: http://musicandthesoul.com/
Hi Spiritual Emergency--
If you happen to pass this way again, I just want to thank you for the heads up about the broken link on this blog. I checked out your blog and it looks like you're providing a wonderful service. I'll keep it in mind if I run across anyone who needs it.
Best,
Kurt
